Masterpiece Classic: Classic English Literature 1

Great Collection
I got this for myself after seeing "Great Expectations" on PBS. So, I was very glad to add that to my collection. I also have the movie version directed by David Lean, and I like both of them. Though I love Gillian Anderson and she gives a fine portrayal, in my book the definitive performance of Miss Havisham is that given by Martita Hunt in the Lean version. But don't let that sway you away from this collection. This is a great version of "Great Expectations." It is lush and beautiful. "Jane Eyre" and "Wuthering Heights" are both top notch productions as well. I have watched these repeatedly. "Northanger Abbey" is quite enjoyable, but for me, the first three I mentioned are the reason to get this set.

As to the extras, I didn't give them much thought as I really just wanted to have the DVD titles in my collection; however, I got this set as a birthday gift for a friend, and she went wild about the extras. That made me take a look at those in my set, and indeed, they are...

BEST Collection...EVER!
I am an avid Masterpiece watcher and fan (as well as a huge Anglophile) and I have to say this collection set has blown me away! I want to buy it for everyone I know that appreciates this type of television. I highly recommend it! (Jane Eyre was SO SO SO good!)

Great Buy
I am a big fan of Masterpiece Classics, especially Dowton Abbey. However, when I saw that Northanger Abbey was included I had to buy it. I know you probably all think that Jane Austen's Pride & Prejudice is her best literary work but Northanger Abbey is always overlooked and the film version does not disappoint. The box set also comes with cool memorabilia of the authors which was a bonus. Sadly, the memorabilia only focuses more on Charles Dickens than Jane Austen but it a great bonus. I personally think that this box set would be a great gift for the holidays.
